The Weary Band - You Can Get Lost (England)

about

The Weary Band are a group of pals who write, record, & release their own music, made possible largely by a rickety old 8-track tape machine & a homemade studio/practice space in Bristol. Tim and Alex met when they were about 17 at a 6th-form college and spent most Friday nights drinking, indulging in ridiculous, mammoth jams, and recording Tim's songs on a 4-track tape machine.

The band have undergone some changes in the last 10 years: starting life as Valley Forge (named after a space ship in the film "Silent Runnings"), they originally played loud and fast and drew comparisons with Pavement, The Velvet Underground, The Pixies, and The Cure. Tim has always written both alternative rock and more gentle acoustic songs and as these didn't seem to fit into the Valley Force set, they decided to invent a folk group called The Weary Band.

Often supporting themselves, the band played gigs around the country and abroad and now added comparisons with Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, and Fairport Convention to the list. Garnering rave reviews for these gigs, they attracted media and record label attention and were a "buzz band" for a while with admirers including Gorwel Owen and Alun Llywd (Super Furry Animals producer/label founder), Andy Partridge (XTC), and Joe BOyd (producer).

The current, self recorded, mixed, and produced album "You Can Get Lost" was mastered by Donal Whelan at Hafod Mastering - available digitally and on limited edition vinyl through kingbillrecords.com. The band are due to release a new album, Serenity Mountain, on March 26, 2014. Tracks from this album have been played by Lauren Laverne and Gideon Coe on BBC 6 Music.
